Is there any American in this forum who lives in Dubai or UAE?
I am considering moving there. My first thought about that place is that it is far too dangerous place for an American woman. But then I think, Dubai has large number of foreign workers, which can imply that the country is very tolerant and cosmopolitan place.
I was wondering, as American moving to Dubai, did you get used to the new environment quickly? Did you face any major problems?

American in Dubai
Postado por BusyMommy DXB em Dubai forum
I'm an American woman living in Dubai with my family. I'm not sure where in the states you are from but the level of safety in Dubai is incredibly safe.
There is hardly any crime affecting you daily. The biggest safety issue is probably the standard of driving. But to be honest, it's not that much worse than what I've seen in the US.
We were able to adjust quite easily as we are open minded and respect the local culture and religion. We did a lot of research before moving here. Here are a couple of websites to help you:

Hi Eman,
The CELTA must be learned face to face, I think there is no on line CELTA because you have to practice teaching with real students. It is very easy, don't be worry. When you start, contact me I would help.

Regarding teaching in Dubai
Postado por Hsam Hassan em Dubai forum
Hi Eman,
I am working here with the Higher Colleges of Technology and the ministry of Education. I am Egyptian and have been working in Dubai for about 15 years. The most important qualification to work in the field of teaching English, supervising, or training is to be a native speaker. You hold a British passport and that's enough. If you want to add to your qualification, there is an International Certificate is called CELTA. You can finish it as an intensive course in a month or four month as a part time. You can apply in Abu Dhabi with an amazing package, try this link http://www.adec.ac.ae/English/Pages/Careers.aspx
for any help you can contact me at [...]

I just saw your post, so I don't know if you are still interested in this info. I am an American single female, living in Dubai. I have been here for three months. It is a great place for women, very safe. I walk alone at night and feel no anxiety at all.
Of course I try to minimize my chances of being treated rudely by dressing modestly, and not being loud and vulgar. Overall I love it here. It was more difficult to find a job than I expected, but finally I was successful.
I am renting a sublet (studio type) apartment with a shared kitchen which I found advertised in a local newspaper. My landlord is from India, and very nice. Public transport is easy and affordable, even taxis are not too expensive for a short distance. If you have any more questions let me know!
