Accomplished amputee skiers Vasu Sojitra and Pete McAfee will speak about their historic descent of Alaska's Denali, the tallest mountain in North America at 20,310 feet.

Free tickets are available for "The First Adaptive Descent of Denali: Leadership Beyond Barriers," a talk sponsored by the Montana State University Leadership Institute at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the university's Strand Union Building ballrooms.

Accomplished amputee skiers Vasu Sojitra and Pete McAfee will speak about their historic descent of Alaska's Denali, the tallest mountain in North America at 20,310 feet. Tickets are required for the event and may be reserved through Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/yeyupru7.

Sojitra lost his right leg when he was 9 months old. Now 30 years old, he recently completed what is believed to be the first disabled ski descent of Denali. In the lecture, Sojitra will aim to challenge the biases that go with being a disabled person of color and encourage others to follow his example. He is the first adaptive athlete for The North Face, a founding member for the Outdoor F.U.T.U.R.E Initiative, co-founder of the Inclusive Outdoors Project and a disability access strategist for The Avarna Group and the In Solidarity Project.

McAfee, a Texas native who lost his right leg below the knee in childhood, is an avid ski mountaineer and adaptive ski instructor. He raises funds and awareness for outdoor adaptive inclusion and for amputees without access to adaptive devices. McAfee joined Sojitra on the Denali descent.

The event will include a Q and A focused on leadership, barriers, access and inclusion. Attendees are invited to a reception after the lecture with the speakers, panelists and sponsors.
