Salem Symphonic Winds will return to Youngberg Hill in McMinnville for the performance of Queen's Gambit at 6 pm on Sunday, August 21. John Skelton will direct the band through various light music selections in celebration of the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II and all things British.

Jeff Witt will join the band as the featured vocalist. Jeff teaches choir and theatre at Central High School in Independence and is a veteran actor, often gracing the stage at the Pentacle Theatre in Salem. He will sing A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Feeling Good, Anthem from Chess, and more.

Joan Paddock, Professor of Music at Linfield University and internationally renowned trumpet and Lur soloist, will be featured as a cornet soloist on the theme and variations on The British Grenadiers. This traditional British marching song dates back to the 17th century.

The program will feature The Platinum Jubilee March by Chris Shelton, written to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's seventy-year reign as monarch of the United Kingdom. Its premiere was televised worldwide as part of the Queen's Birthday Parade, which marked the start of the national Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The march was performed by the First Battalion of the Irish Guards trooping their colors in the Queen's Birthday Parade. Colonel Bogey, another popular British march made famous in the film The Bridge on the River Kwai, will also be included in the program.
