European Union Chamber Orchestra

Under the direction of Hans-Peter Hofmann, EUCO will be joined by BBC Young Musician Finalist Benjamin Goldscheider to perform music from Haydn & Mozart in the stunning Royal Hall.

Since its first public performance in 1981, the European Union Chamber Orchestra has performed in venues across Europe and as far afield as Asia, North, South & Central America, North Africa, India and the Middle East. The orchestra has worked with internationally renowned soloists such as Julian Lloyd Webber, Nicola Benedetti, Yehudi Menuhin and Tasmin Little.

Directed by Hans-Peter Hofmann, this concert programme explores Harrogate Music Festival's theme of "Generations" by examining one of the greatest musical dynasties of all time - the Haydn and Mozart families. The orchestra will be joined by BBC Young Musician Finalist Benjamin Goldscheider who will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 4 in E flat major as well as Michael Haydn's Concertino for Horn in D major.

It is not surprising that both W.A. Mozart and Joseph Haydn emerged as two of the finest musical minds of the time, both having the guidance of their fathers, who were also talented composers. Although the music of Leopold Mozart and Michael Haydn is less well known than that of their more prolific sons, the Haydn and Mozart families developed a strong connection. While W.A. Mozart was still young, Joseph Haydn was already a renowned composer but as Mozart grew older, the pair developed a mutual respect for each other's compositions.
