Ekka Championship Dog Show

The Ekka’s most popular dog competition is back and reaching royal heights with a record 2763 dogs on show this year.

More than 172 different breeds will take part in the Royal Queensland Championship Canine Show at the Dog Pavilion between Friday 5 to Sunday 14 August with special guest judges flying in from Slovenia, The Netherlands, Malaysia, Japan and Colombia.

Dogs and their owners will fly from overseas and across the country to take part in this year’s festivities which will include showcases of utility dogs, gun dogs, non-sporting dogs, hound dogs, working dogs, terrier dogs and toy dogs.

Dogs Queensland’s Marketing Manager, Helen Mackie, is encouraging show-goers to visit the Dogs Queensland stand in the Dog Pavilion where volunteers will be giving expert advice on pure bred dogs all week.

“This is a grand event and presents an occasion for dog owners and dog lovers alike to come together to admire breeds that are the best of the canine best when they compete in a variety of dog shows and sporting trials.”

“See small dogs at the feature toy dog show, meet and greet the Best Puppy in Show, or dance along with some very talented dogs at the animal boulevard. The Ekka is the only event where such an opportunity exists.”
