Επιστροφή στην Ουγγαρία φόρουμ

Weird grammar problem

I´m just about to improve my language skills in hungarian and therefore I read books in hungarian.
Now I stumbled upon a weird sounding sentence.

Rakosgatás közben a gyereke üres helye mellett még két résre bukkant.........

I do understand this sentence,
but I do not understand why it it gyerekE und not gyerek.
Why is there an E attached?

  a child - egy gyerek
  my child - gyerekem
  your child - gyereked
  his/her child - gyereke
  our child - gyerekünk
  your child - gyereketek
  their child - gyerekük

  "gyereke" means somebody's child
