I just read a story on Spiegel online which shocked me: According to a new study, more than 14% of German teenagers can be considered as "anti-foreigners", while more than 5% fall into the category of the righ extreme with Nazi-tendencies.
Surprisingly, the bad reputation of foreigners seems to be higher in those regions with little foreigners (so those regions where people don't even know what they talk about!!!).

To me - this is just another example of human ignorance, but for a foreigners living in Germany, these numbers are pretty scary!

La pregunta racismo es muy difícil de contestar ya que la perspectiva varía dependiendo del ángulo desde donde se mire, leí muchas opiniones aquí en el foro antes de escribir, de hecho algunas del 2009 y todos tienen razón dependiendo de, y respectando suss punto de vista, PERO la clave para dar una respuesta es QUIÉN LO DIGA, si preguntas a una persona de piel "blanca" que no es alemana sobre el racismo en Alemania, se va a basar en la nacionalidad, en el acento, bla, bla, pero si preguntas a una persona de piel "morena-negra-oscura (como sea tu costumbre llamarla)" allí encontraras una respuesta -respuesta porque el de piel blanca rápidamente puede camuflarse entre muchas personas, pero el de piel morena? Ajá, brilla por su presencia. TODO ESTO PARA DECIR QUE SOY UNA MUJER MORENA- NEGRA-OSCURA, DE COLOMBIA y precisamente en este momento (pero ya a finales de mayo regreso a mi país) estoy en Alemania de turismo, y tengo que decir que SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII hay muchísimo racismo en Alemania, como dice Crisis ellos no te van a atacar pero con sus miradas si te hacen sentir que eres más o menos una mierd..... En mi caso personal todos me miran para bien o para mal, me miran por mi color, me miran porque sin modestia soy una morena muy bonita, con una dentadura que para Alemania es más que perfecta, en mi país soy adicta al gym (gimnasio) y no me gusta andar mal vestida, entonces, me miran por mi ropa distinta, me miran por mi color, algunos hombres no me miran mal, algunas mujeres me han sonreido (pero no en burla sino amablemente, aparentemente), pero otras y otros vaya experiencia, plantan su mirada hasta que te hacen sentir mal, y como dato curioso que no sé si reir o llorar, les digo que los que más te hacen sentir mal, como bicho, como extranjero, como negro.............SON LOS NINOS, al final todos temiran asombrados pero si estas muy cerca de ellos.............Válgame Dios.
Tenía una idea vaga del racimos en Alemania antes de venir pero me dije a mi misma, es SU problema no el mío, si a ellos les incomoda entonces que se enfermen de la úlcera ellos, pero yo vivo mi vida y sigo mi camino, a las personas que mi novio me ha presentado no sé por dentro pero aparentemente les he caido bien.Siempre lo he dicho en mi pais y lo seguiré diciendo en la China y en la Conchinchina y Alemania no es la excepción, a mí réctame y menospreciame con intelecto, con conocimiento, con inteligencia, con razonamiento, pero no con bobaditas de color, esto no destine papá. Y lastima que los negros todavía se dejen humillar o se ofendan porque alguien los mira o los trata mal, pero a mí que me esculquen, lastima que la sociedad no permite tantos arquitectos negros famosos, o sino, sabrían de mi y entonces les preguntaría: Como le díje alguna vez a una tonta secretaría en una oficina donde trabajé qued desde el primer día en que llegué comenzó a mirarme por encima de su hombro, ella no sabía qué hacía yo allí pero mientras lo supo siempre era su mirada rayada, hasta que un día me acerqué y le pregunté, tiene algún problema conmigo? Y ella muy egocéntrica me dice: Es que no es normal ver negros aquí, no esperaba su respuesta pues pensé que al interrogarla se sentiría avergonzada, pero con muchas ganas me lo ha dicho (tal vez pensó que iría por la vacantedel café y los banos); yo inmediatamente le contesté: Ah que bueno, pero pienso que me van a contrartar, así que de ahora en adelante será normal aquí y para usted, soy la nueva arquitecta que trabajará con el arquitecto Gracía Y USTED PIENSO SERÁ TAMBIÉN MI SECRETARÍA. Y cuando teminó el día laborarl, al salir le dije: que raro, yo negra pero arquitecta y usted blanca pero secretaria, irónico no? Pienso, ella pensó, por qué no se abre la tierra para ocultarme allí. Desde ese momento nunca la saludé a llegar a la empresa, ella me hablaba y siempre decía o.k., gracias, puede retirarse, no con grocería, JAMAS,es solo que no soy rencorosa pero quería demostrarle que la próxima vez que quisiera usar sus ínfulas de color, lo pensara dos veces y que sí, las oficinas está llena de "blancos" y los bancos son una mierd.....(Nunca ves a un negro en los cajeros... y no es que no hayan negros profesionales para ocupar el cargo, es solo que...........Solo quería decir silenciosamente a ella que los de piel negra no siempre estarán abajo para que ellos alimenten su ego. Jajajaajaja no estoy enojada de verdad, es solo que no invierto mi tiempo en si una alemana me menosprecia o no,, es ella, es su problema, no es mí problema, mientras no me toque, no tengo problema jajaajajaja. Un abrazo.

Que mal princesa, no venimos a peliar a este país claro que no, pero tampoco se trata de que te dejes, no te humilles a ti mis, eh, mi Chissy eso me enoja muchísimo, si ellos se planta a mirarte fijamente pues tú miralos también haber quién se cansa primero, no respondas a ellos ni los mires en forma desafiante pero no quiero que vuelvas hacer eso, hay que tener carácter y si ellos van a mirarte entonces bien pueda que te miren pero nunca derrotada, siempre muy educada es lo más importante pero no te dejes. Si son personas que se ven agresivas entonces no te quedes allí pero tampocos demuestres un: esta bien ustedes ganan. En mi país (Colombia) decimos: la pelea es peleando, pero no me mal interpretes sino si tú puedes mirarme mal (El Alemán) entonces yo también puedo y así no vamos a solucionar el problema de racismo en este lugar pero por lo menos ellos lo pensaran dos veces la próxima vez.

Comparto tú opinión, por eso siempre voy a la calle con mi novio que es alemán porque he notado que cuando estoy con él (claro sus rasgoz físico por fortuna son netamente alemanes) las personas disimulan más de hecho no se atreven a decir nada en voz alta ni hacer comentario evidente, pero una vez fui al supermercado Aldi muy cerca de la casa y de hecho pienso que los cajeros allí ya me conocen, pero he ido SOLA e inmediatamente comenzaron los comentarios de estas personas, nuevas y de las personas que siempre me han visto allí, no quiero decir que andar con una alemán en las calles es 100% seguro, pero por lo menos da más seguridad.Un abrazo mujer cuidadte.

for now they are singling out Muslims, but what do they mean by "foreign workers from other cultures"? are they really talking culturally or maybe ethnically? ethnic cleansing is coming to Germany again driven by the Germans perhaps? Hitler's administration was a minority government, it didn't take 50% of German support to implement what they did. and now at least 50% of the Germans actually "admit" they want less immigrants.
if there were a large ethnic group other than the Turks, be it Africans, Asians or even East Europeans, I can easily imagine Germans will try to single them out and blame them for all the social failures again.
I don't think it's wise at this point to resist. it's their country. it's about time for them to be more explicit about their "preference." if some of those minority of Germans keep insisting on bringing in MORE immigrants, Germany will be almost inhabitable for immigrants. Germans are saying they don't need any help from immigrants. let them have just that.

found this article on integration and thought it was a funny read. the funny part is the whole integrating / excluding thing. seems like the german government can't decide on its integration policy xD no wonder the process is failing.

I’m Irish and I have worked for a few years in the London and have also worked in Germany and lived in Germany.
I would fully admit that the Irish can be raciest but in your story you said the Irish called you all sorts of things in Gaelic, this I find very hard to believe. I’m ashamed to say, most Irish can’t speak Irish these days and cursing at someone in Irish just doesn’t happen. Why would you when everyone who can speak Irish can also speak English.
I have I have to say found the English to be least racist after the Dutch, the best people on the planet.
I also have to say although at this stage most of my friends are German they are extremely racist without even knowing it. My ex lived in an apartment block where nobody (except me) talked to one of the family’s because they were Turkish. And nobody say anything wrong with this. They weren’t in my opinion even Turkish they were born in Germany.
My German friends would say they are not racist but they just don’t like Indians, or I don’t trust the Polish or … they actually don’t believe they are being racist. I get my head bitten off anytime I say that that is raciest.
Other examples would be – At Christmas when flying back to Germany from Dublin a lot the flights to Frankfurt were cancelled or delayed. It had been in the news for a week that there were problems with de-icer for the runway in Frankfurt. The Germans when the delay was announced started saying things like “typical Irish inefficiency” and “typical Irish incompetence” loudly not in German but in English. If they had looked at the news during the week they would have known the problem was at Frankfurt or looked at the departure board they would see the only departures with delays were to Frankfurt and Berlin.
I also went with my girlfriend to a German hotel in Bulgaria and everyone was really nice to me. But I did notice in the morning we all queued for breakfast all nice and well mannered. But as soon as we all went to a waterpark and mixed with other nationalities the same Germans would walk to the top of the queue say “Germans don’t queue”. Again not seeing that this is in anyway wrong.
So I do love the Germans for a lot of things and they are very often a very kind people but they are racist, often without even meaning to be.
Keep your head down and mouth shut!....

John, I am African American woman and an exchange student in Germany in the West. I have noticed the exact same thing as you! I walk with my head normal and make eye contact with those around me and sometimes I stop traffic. Literally, I was walking down the street toward Netto and a group of older men stopped walking and stared at me until I dropped my eyes. I felt less than human at that moment. It's like they want you to be as quiet as possible...and invisible too. I refuse to do that as an American and as a human being! However, I still feel the pressure when I walk out my door..it's like taking on the world...i can't wait to go home.
Germany is quite racist

I am an African American, living in Germany as an exchange student. Germany reminds me of the rural south of America. In the southern states, separatist groups like the KKK and Neo Nazis are quite popular in small towns. In Germany, these groups (at least where I am in the West) seem to be hidden but everyday i encounter racism or strange reactions. People stare a LOT! People make racist comments about you. I was walking in the park alone and three guys yelled horrible things at me about being from Africa ect.
I always get checked for tickets on the bus or tram. No one else on the bus or tram gets checked but me. I always get followed in stores. Customer services sucks in Germany but I always have a special associate following me around. It's really crazy. I feel like i stepped back in time in 1950 in America. there are some good people here who have decided on their own that they aren't racist. There aren't enough good people though and I don't like it here.Bla, bla, bla

Hablar de racismo en Alemania es una locura, mi novio (Aleman, yo soy de Colombia de piel morena) me dice que es uno de los paises que más extranjeros tiene, la pregunta tiene dos respuestas direccionadas y son: los o mejor para no generar conflictos, algunos alemanes son racistas por el color de piel y por LA NACIONALIDAD, algunos alemanes odían a los rusos, a los turcos, los holandenses y franceses. En poco tiempo pude saber claramente por qué y aprovechando el tema y me disculpa si hay algún turco en este foro, pero debo decir que los turcos me parecen tan ridículos, ellos sin mirar el color, ODIAN A LOS EXTRANJEROS y me pregunto: ellos qué son aquí en Alemania? Hijos de casa? Ahora sumen este odio a mi color de piel. En las calles las personas que más mal me miraban eran los turcos y pienso, qué les pasa? Ellos no son así muy blancos, de hecho no son nada atrativos y me disculpan, entre gusto no hay disgusto pero déjenme decirles, las mujeres entre más obesas es mejor porque su religión es contra producente a las mujeres de USA, su ropa, su expresión y llegas a Alemania y ellos son los que peor te miran (no digo maltratan porque pobre del que se atreva a maltratarme, tengo a mi mejor escuadrón: el ejercito de Dios y él no conciente nada con sus soldados jeejeeje) El racismo en Alemania tiene desviaciones por muchas ramas, mi novio le gusta correr motos y odia a los Holandeses porque el alemán cumple las normal muy organizado, como siempre y el holandes como no es su país y como no tienen curvas en sus carreteras vienen a Alemania con motos ruidosas y velocidades desafiantes, entonces el gobierno quita privilengios, reduce velocidades, prohíbe vías, etc., etc., entonces crece en el alemán un odio por lo holandeses (es un ejemplo en este caso de las motos que es el que conocí, pero seguro habrán más razones) pero entonces uno piensa, por qué el odio, por qué el racismo, por qué el rechazo? Pienso: algunos alemanes tiene sus razones del por qué son racistas en este caso, como el racismo por los turcos, que tienen más dinero que ellos porque el gobierno los ayuda y por eso casi todos los restaurantes son turcos, porque ellos siendo extranjeros odían a los alemanes y eso que estan en su casa y porque los turcos piensan que los alemanes deberían se como ellos,entonces el racismo por parte de los alemanes....no esta tan descabellado. Pero a la vez y controversialmente pienso, o.k., los turcos por x o y, y además porque la influencia en su país es drástica. Pero en el caso de los morenos,por qué todos pagamos? Ví morenos aquí en mi viaje de turismo y tengo que decirlo, algunos sobretodo en Berlin no se veían físicamente no muy recomendados pero por qué ellos me miraban a mí como miran a estas personas? A caso hago lo mismo? A caso han cruzado palabras conmigo para saber si tengo educación o no? Y no me refiero al intelecto sino a que tal vez alguno de ellos espera su oportunidad para tomar lo ageno pero yo u otro negro que pase por las calles tiene la misma intensión? Porque todos somos negros, todos somos rateros o como ellos dicen todos olemos mal? Solo es la caracteristica: Negro, ya, suficiente para ser flechado y listos para odiarlos y mirarlos mal donde quiera que los encuentren. Qué es esto? Ausencia de neurónas? Qué piensa usted?
